Shakespeare in the making??

Hello dear bumblebees!

In the previous class, our lecturer, the very fabulous Madam Fiza had asked us to post a self-portrait drawn by ourselves so that our readers can have an idea on how we looked like.

But since both Tasha and I would rather burn someone’s car instead of posting two incredible, beautiful (uhuk-uhuk) drawings of ourselves, we rather post these poems instead to let you guys know a bit of ourselves.

Don’t judge okay!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gosh, where do I start?
I’m horrible at writing, I prefer theatrical acting.
I like pinks I like black, those two colours represent me best.
I am a city girl who loves the outdoors, my dream is to see the world more.
My spirit animals are Unicorns and Gordon Ramsey,
I have a slight obsession with all things pretty.
I can be annoying, confident and bitchy, yup that’s me.
But I still cry every time Jack dies leaving Rose behind.
Unlucky in love unfortunately, I built a wall around me.
I am a handful but trust me, you’ll never get bored of me.

 I am,,,

I am a Girl,
I am a Person.
I am a Human,
Why can’t you see?

I am here,
I am waiting,
I am searching,
For something real.

Our International Friend :3

Hellooooo everyone! Assalamualaikum and good day to all of you beautiful people :D

Just want to let you know that we just went out with our international friend the other day, and it was so much fun! hihi

Here's us being awesome :P

Wanna know how it went?

Well, we pretty much just talked, talked and talked for hours, rambling about everything from the weather, food, Izzati’s flying motorcycle incident (don’t ask), course work and so much more.

I guess that’s what girls do lol

It’s very interesting though, knowing about the cultures and lifestyle of the people who live at the other side of the world.

It helps us to open up our minds to the bigger world out there.

Anyway, while we were chatting with Reema during our short outing, we managed to ask her a little bit about her experience in Malaysia so far.

She told us that she really love it here, all of the people are friendly and welcoming, and that she does not have any major problems aside from the hot weather.

This got us wondering about the differences between the culture in her country and in Malaysia, so we asked her.

According to Reema, there are not that many differences in terms of people’s behaviour or the environment as both, in Yemen and in IIUM, the Islamic environment is present. Thus, it is somehow similar.

IIUM Mosque

However, she did mentioned about the clothes, the interactions between boys and girls and most importantly, the food.

In Yemen, it is actually compulsory for women to wear Abaya every time they went out, and most women cover their faces. But in Malaysia, Reema said the dress code is much more lenient.

About the food on the other hand, she was so fascinated by the fact that Malaysians eat rice for like, three times a day. According to her, people in Yemen don’t really eat rice that much as their daily food is usually bread.

After talking for a while, we moved on to a slightly heavier issue which is about the culture of man and woman in both countries. Reema told us that in Yemen, the interactions between the opposite genders are strictly guarded. People don’t really talk to the opposite gender unless it’s necessary.

This has the upsides, and the downsides.

The upside of it is that, the limitations or boundaries between man and woman are highly protected. Nevertheless, this is bad in a sense that the opposite gender becomes veerrryyyyy ‘alien’ to each other. Reema said that it is because of those restrictions that the guys in Yemen are considered as ‘dangerous’.

Why?

Because they hardly get to see any girls, like, ever. Thus, once they saw one, they are so… interested in them…but not in a good way, if you know what I mean.

In Malaysia, however, the culture is totally different.

She told us that she was a bit shocked seeing how the interactions between man and woman are in Malaysia, specifically IIUM. According to her, even though it is still guarded, the interactions are much much more unrestricted here.

Since she came from a foreign country and people can clearly see that she’s not from here, we were interested to know whether she had any experience of being prejudiced or discriminated here.

Again, due to the Islamic environment in IIUM, she claimed that those kinds of bad experience have never really happened to her so far, so Alhamdulillah :D

There are actually a loottttt more that we talked about the other day, but most of it was just some random and girly stuff. It's nice to find a new friend of the same gender but from a completely different background, got a lot more to talk about, hihi.

Well, that’s basically it for now. Quite interesting isn’t it, hmm..

Don’t worry, we sure will update you guys more on this if we were to meet her again later :D

Thank you so much for reading and don’t forget to come back!

WE HAVE A NEW INTERNATIONAL FRIEND, WEEE~!!!

Wanna see how she looks like? hehe. Here she is...

Presenting Reema Yacoob, tadaaaa!

She’s a first year student from CELPAD (in IIUM) but she told us that she’s considering to switch to our course, which is ENCOM.

We might actually become classmates one day, how fun is that? :D

We think that it’s always fun to have new friends from different countries around, it gives us that extra colours and diversity in our lives. We can actually learn a lot from them, hihi :3

Okay, a little bit about our new friend here....

Reema came from Yemen and she’s the same age as both of us; Sweet 21 y’alls ;)

Before studying in IIUM, she studied for a bit in her home country and took architecture for a year (which explains why she’s the same age as both of us even though she’s in her first year).

However, because of some health issues, she had to change her course and decided that she wanted to start all over again in Malaysia.

What’s interesting is that she actually came here as a tourist at first and she was so fascinated by the cultures, food and environment in Malaysia, so she decided to further her studies here.

I guess Malaysia isn’t so bad after all :P

#RANDOM
We are super excited to know more about her and find out about her views on Malaysia so far. It would be interesting to get to know the cultures in her country too!

Well, as sad as it is, that’s all we got for now. Hope you enjoyed reading and don’t forget to come back for more. See you in the next post! *winks*

Stereotypes? Prejudice?

Assalamualaikum Guys!

How are you awesome peeps doing? I bet you’re doing great :D

Sooooo... today we would like to share about something that is highly relevant in today’s world with multicultural and multi-ethnic relations which are stereotypes and prejudice. What are those?

Well for starters, stereotype is related to a generalized perceptions towards other people.

For example, I bet its common for us to say stuff like “all Chinese looks the same”, “all Malays are lazy”, oopss. hihihii (but that's not true okay :P)

Well yeah, that’s what a stereotype means. But, of course, just like a cool lecturer of ours said once upon a time,

“all of us needs a certain way to perceive the world or otherwise we cannot perceive the world”.

However, generalizing people based on the group that they belong to is not right okay.
(My angry face)

Now, how about prejudice?

Hemm, it refers to the judgements that you made about certain people before even knowing them. It could be either good or bad.

Personally, I think that everyone have had certain prejudice on certain people at one point of their lives (or maybe that’s just a stereotype that I have).

Well, for me, one thing that I’ve noticed is that I tend to have a bad impression or prejudice towards guys who smoke. Because to me, well, obviously, if you don’t care enough to not try to kill yourself and the people around you then why would I even bother looking at you? (Err, it’s a bit harsh I know, but it’s the truth).

However, when I get closer to those guys, I can actually see that most of the time, they smoke for certain reasons, not just for fun.

Of course, it is almost normal for people to judge other people or have certain prejudice towards them because of the way they behave, the clothes they wear or the people they’re close with, but that does not mean that it is a right thing to do.

We should always try to open up our minds and look at other people positively at all times!

Okay, that’s it for now. Hope you had a great time reading. Don’t forget to come back for more!
